RELATIONSHIP COUNSELING AND COACHING
|
Most people have not had a class on how to have a couple relationship. Our usual approach to relationships is that both people are somehow supposed to have acquired the skills necessary to make it work. Like many assumptions, this one often leads to disastrous results. This is all the more true given that many of us did not have the optimum relationship modeled by our parents. We then, by default, do whatever it is we have seen in our homes, the movies, or books we have read. What then do you do? The fact is that there has been considerable research and exploration into identifying things you can do to make your relationship work. The trick is to learn these skills in a way that leads to them being integrated into your relationship. Often this work involves getting back to the basics. The title of the book "Everything I Ever Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" really captures this idea. Many times as adults we are attempting to build upper stories on a building when the foundation was never put in place. |

However, often such work is not simply getting a matter of hammering boards in place. Many times the "simple" work of filling in the basics requires understanding some of the deeper ways in which we get in our own way. I really enjoy helping couples have the kind of relationship that they dream of having. This work is exciting, challenging, and, ultimately, leads to one of the most extraordinary things in life: a committed, loving relationship.
Both my wife, Mary, and I help couples have better relationships. We offer classes, workshops and individualized sessions. Find out more by clicking this link: Creative Connections.
